We were sport fishing in Kona, HI. We used a lure. She was a large fish and fought hard. She was exhausted when we finally pulled her in and we almost had to cut her free because two large (8-9 ft) sharks had come close to the boat for her. We observed her alongside the boat and did not haul her into the boat. We quickly took pictures and then released her ASAP. She slowly sank underwater which worried me, but the boat captain said the cool water will revive her and that he saw her swim off underwater before we departed. Everyone on board was concerned the sharks did not get her and that was top priority since this would be a catch and release fish. Our very first time ocean fishing!
